Security Alert
Recently, users should remain alert to crypto scams that begin through social relationships, investment guidance, or prolonged trust-building. The FBI disclosed a criminal case on September 25 involving a large-scale “pig butchering”-style crypto scam and continues to warn that fraudsters often use social platforms, messaging apps, or fake investment websites to build trust before persuading victims to transfer increasing amounts of crypto assets. They may later demand additional payments under the pretext of “taxes,” “account unlocking,” or “asset recovery.” Users should avoid sending funds based solely on recommendations from people they only know online, independently verify investment websites and apps, and watch for lookalike domains impersonating legitimate financial institutions. Victims should not make further payments for supposed withdrawal fees or recovery services.
