PANews reported on February 3 that Rosa María González, a suspect in the Argentine cryptocurrency scam Generación Zoe, was arrested by police in San Cristóbal, Táchira state, Venezuela. The scam resulted in losses exceeding $120 million for tens of thousands of investors. González is accused of absconding with 611 bitcoins (worth approximately $56 million) after the scam collapsed in 2022.

Generación Zoe claimed to offer investors returns of up to 7.5% on crypto assets backed by market prediction bots and its own gold reserves. However, investigations revealed it to be a Ponzi scheme, using funds from new investors to pay "dividends" to older investors. González also claimed his trading algorithm was "quantum-safe" and offered monthly returns of up to 70%.

It is reported that González used a private security company in Buenos Aires to evade police pursuit before fleeing to Venezuela, where she attempted to plan a new fraud scheme with her former partner. Currently, the complex diplomatic situation makes her extradition to Argentina challenging. Argentine police hope she will confess the truth and recover losses for investors.
