The Martial Arts History Museum will host a special Honor Day on May 9, 2026, to recognize the achievements, contributions, and philanthropic efforts of actor and martial artist Sean Kanan. The event underscores the museum’s mission to honor martial arts legends and celebrates Kanan’s multifaceted impact on both popular culture and community causes.
Kanan is widely recognized for his portrayal of ‘Bad Boy’ Mike Barnes in ‘The Karate Kid Part III’ and his recent return to the role in the Netflix series ‘Cobra Kai,’ which introduced his character to a new generation. He also maintains a significant following from his long-running role as Deacon Sharpe on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful,’ the world’s most-watched daytime drama. Michael Matsuda, President of the Martial Arts History Museum, stated that Kanan embodies the spirit of martial arts both on and off the mat.
Beyond his screen work, Kanan is noted for his advocacy in youth mentorship, wellness, and community empowerment. The Honor Day will feature photo montages, video clips, tributes from peers and fans, and a ‘This Is Your Life’-style segment, allowing guests to meet the honoree. Special guest presenters include high-ranking martial artists such as Shihan Chris Pellitteri, a 9th-degree black belt; Darryl Vidal, a 10th-degree black belt and original ‘The Karate Kid’ cast member; William Christopher Ford, a 5th-degree black belt who appeared with Kanan in ‘The Karate Kid Part III’; and Gerard L. Noonan, a 3rd-degree black belt in World Tae Kwon Do Federation.
The event will also include screenings of ‘The Real Miyagi’ at 12 PM and ‘The Karate Kid Part III’ at 2 PM, followed by a Q&A session. Kanan will donate a signed poster to support the Palisades Fire Residents Coalition, and the first 100 attendees will receive a special gift bag. Tickets for the event, priced at $20, can be purchased here or through the museum’s website. This celebration offers a unique opportunity to acknowledge a figure whose work bridges Hollywood, martial arts, philanthropy, and pop culture, emphasizing the importance of honoring contributions that extend beyond entertainment into meaningful community engagement.
