- Mitigating Modern Risks: Leading hands-on evaluations to identify and remediate cutting-edge vulnerabilities such as AI hallucinations, bias and fairness, prompt injection, and algorithmic bias.
A Legacy of Risk Management Excellence
Before his tenure at Vanguard, Somvanshi held senior leadership roles at Citibank, where he served as Senior Vice President of Model, Scoring & Analysis. During his time with the U.S. Branded Cards portfolio, he:
- Oversaw High-Stakes Validations: Managed the risk and performance monitoring for a vast array of machine learning and regression models used in fraud detection, acquisitions, and customer management.
- Ensured Regulatory Readiness: Acted as a key liaison for internal audits and regulatory exams, ensuring that all modeling practices met stringent industry standards.
- Transformed Fraud Detection: While at Citicorp, he played a vital role in building a 150+ member Analytics Center of Excellence and received the Quality Excellence Award in 2016 for transforming fraud detection platforms.
Academic and Technical Foundation
Somvanshi’s career is built on a rigorous quantitative background, holding a Master of Statistics from one of the leading university, the University of Pune. His early career as a Statistical Analyst at Novartis Healthcare—analyzing clinical trial data—instilled a “safety-first” analytical mindset that he has carried into the financial sector.
Today, Anant Somvanshi is recognized not just as a risk manager, but as a strategic enabler who bridges the gap between technical innovation and corporate responsibility. His work ensures that as AI evolves, it does so within a framework that protects both the institution and the consumer.
