PETALING JAYA: A teacher was charged in the Kuala Terengganu sessions court today with two counts of sexual assault against a male student earlier this month.
Izzuddin Asari, 31, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read out to him before judge Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli, Bernama reported.
He was accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a hotel in Kuala Terengganu at 8am on June 4.
The first charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
The second charge was framed under Section 14(d), which also provides for the same punishment.
The court set bail at RM12,000 with one surety for both charges, and ordered Izzuddin to report to the nearest police station every month.
It fixed July 23 for case mention.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nur Aisyah Mohamad, while Izzuddin was represented by lawyer Abdul Hayyi Salim.
