The internet brutally mocked Secretary of State Marco Rubio after a Democratic lawmaker pushed him to answer a series of questions, including one about his shoes — a gift from President Donald Trump that the commander-in-chief reportedly expects his cabinet members to wear.

Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) was among the lawmakers grilling Rubio during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, asking a series of questions.

"I have one last question for you. Who won the 2020 presidential election?" Jacobs asked.

"I'm not here to answer about 2020," Rubio responded.

Rubio appeared frustrated and tried to reprimand Jacobs for her inquiry. Jacobs pressed Rubio, mentioning the $145 Florsheim men's dress shoes that Rubio and other male Trump team members wear, regardless of whether they reportedly fit or not.

"It seems like you have an issue admitting facts, just like you couldn't admit the shoes the president bought you were too big," Jacobs said.

"He gave me some Florsheim shoes, they fit fine," Rubio said.

The internet was quick to call out the moment — and have a good laugh.

"Rubio on the Florsheims Trump bought him: 'They fit fine.' The Florsheims," CNN senior political reporter Aaron Blake wrote on X, sharing a photo of Rubio's foot in the shoe that appeared to not fit.

"Rubio acting a good little cult follower," Vince Wilson, liberal political commentator, wrote on X.

"The 2020 question broke him. He dodged it, then somehow chose to defend the shoes. A sitting Secretary of State can't say who won a certified election, but he'll go to the mat for his Florsheims," journalist and columnist Qadir Khan Yousufzai wrote on X.

"The Florsheims fit fine," journalist Aaron Rupar wrote on X, sharing the exchange between Rubio and Jacobs.
