KANGAR, June 12 — The Perlis State Education Department (JPN) is giving its full cooperation to the police investigation into a case involving a Year Six pupil who was injured after allegedly falling when a chair she was about to sit on was pulled away by a classmate at a school in the state last February.

In a statement today, JPN Perlis said it would not compromise on bullying misconduct and that anyone found guilty should face appropriate action.

“JPN Perlis takes seriously this incident at a school that resulted in injuries to a pupil,” it said, adding that the school concerned had been instructed to ensure the best possible assistance is provided to the pupil, whose welfare and well-being must be given priority.

Bernama reported earlier today that the 12-year-old girl had been unable to attend school for nearly four months after allegedly sustaining injuries that have limited her mobility in the incident on February 11.

Her mother, Norasikin Hasin, 32, alleged that her eldest child of two siblings suffered a lower back soft tissue injury and was later diagnosed with a functional disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the incident.

Padang Besar district police chief ACP Mohd Shokri Abdullah confirmed that police had received a report regarding the incident, which had been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office and investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. — Bernama
