Singapore taxi and GetGo car collide outside Bendemeer MRT, cabby hospitalised after morning crash

SINGAPORE, June 17 — A taxi and a GetGo car were involved in a collision outside Bendemeer MRT station on the morning of June 17, leaving one taxi driver hospitalised after the crash.

According to Mothership.sg, which first reported the incident, police had cordoned off the stretch near Kallang Bahru for investigations when the outlet arrived at about 9.55am.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the accident at about 8am and conveyed one person to Raffles Hospital.

At the scene, both vehicles were seen with airbags deployed, with the red GetGo car appearing to have sustained more severe damage than the taxi. 

Oil-like fluid was seen leaking from the car, while debris was scattered across the road and guardrails at the divider were damaged.

An Expressway Monitoring Advisory System (EMAS) tow truck was deployed, and onlookers were seen filming the aftermath of the collision.

Police officers at the scene said investigations were ongoing and declined to provide further details.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on X that the road was closed following the accident.

A GetGo spokesperson said it was unable to comment as investigations were ongoing, but added that the safety of users and the public remains a priority, and that support is being provided to those affected.

ComfortDelGro said it was aware of the incident involving one of its taxis and another vehicle along Kallang Bahru, adding that the driver and passenger were sent to hospital. The passenger has since been discharged, while the cabby is receiving medical care.

The company said it remains in contact with the driver and is providing assistance.
