PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar announced that applications by Wawasan and Pejuang to join Perikatan Nasional have been accepted.
KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Wawasan Negara and Pejuang have been admitted into Perikatan Nasional.
The opposition coalition’s chairman, Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, said the decision to admit the two parties was made by PN’s Supreme Council, which met earlier tonight.
Wawasan was launched on June 13, with former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin as president.
Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal were appointed secretary-general and information chief, respectively.
Pejuang was formed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2020. It is currently led by Mahathir’s son, Mukhriz.
At the press conference, Samsuri said seat allocation for the Johor state election will be discussed tomorrow, led by PN election director Sanusi Nor.
He also said tonight’s meeting proceeded harmoniously and that Bersatu’s position in PN was not discussed.
Before the meeting began, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had told reporters the party would remain in PN “forever”.
PAS ended its political cooperation with Bersatu on June 8. Bersatu subsequently pledged to go all-out against PAS in the coming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, insisting it would contest under the PN banner.
Samsuri said there was also no discussion on the use of logos in the upcoming state polls.
“Not discussed yet,” he said when asked whether the component parties in PN would be allowed to use their own logos.
Pressed on whether PN would agree if any party insisted on using its own symbol, he replied: “Not discussed yet. Tomorrow, we will discuss among the component parties on seat allocations.”
