LEDANG: Nadhirah Afiqah Abdull Rahim, the Barisan Nasional candidate in Serom, has rejected claims she was being boycotted following BN’s decision to drop the previous assembly member, Khairin-Nisa Ismail, as a candidate for re-election.
Nadhirah, better known as Iqa Rahim, said she remains close to Khairin-Nisa. “I don’t have any issue with her. We are, after all, part of the same party,” she said.
“So the issue of a boycott does not arise. Harmony reigns in Ledang BN,” she said referring to the parliamentary constituency of Ledang in which the state seat lies.
She was responding to rumours that Umno supporters and members were boycotting her, presumably over their discontent with her nomination.
Nadhirah faces a challenge from Perikatan Nasional’s Mahfidz Omar and Ahmad Nazari Abdul Hamid of Pakatan Harapan.
The Serom seat was won by Khairin-Nisa in 2022 when she wrested the seat from Amanah with a 699-vote majority in a four-cornered contest.
Nadhirah said if she is elected she will focus on improving sporting facilities for the youth. Several venues and locations had been identified for improvements and for new facilities to be built.
“I want to focus on the youth. They have been requesting sporting facilities,” she said, adding that she also intends to see through projects currently being implemented in the area.
