  • The company will develop multiple gigawatt-scale data center campuses with Google Cloud to support AI infrastructure growth
  • NextEra secured over 2.5 gigawatts of clean energy contracts with Meta across 11 power purchase agreements

The deals reflect the growing electricity demands from tech companies racing to build AI infrastructure. Data centers powering artificial intelligence require enormous amounts of energy. Tech firms are now scrambling to lock down power sources.

NextEra will develop multiple gigawatt-scale data center campuses with Google Cloud. Each campus will include accompanying generation capacity. The partnership builds on their existing relationship of roughly 3.5 gigawatts already in operation or under contract.

The companies plan to use Google Cloud AI for NextEra’s enterprise-wide digital transformation. They’re developing an AI-powered product to predict equipment failures and optimize crew scheduling. The tool aims to boost grid reliability during storms and handle aging infrastructure.

The first commercial product should hit Google Cloud Marketplace by mid-2026. The technology will help utilities manage rising electricity demand across their networks.

Clean Energy Contracts with Meta

NextEra signed 11 power purchase agreements and two energy storage agreements with Meta. The contracts total more than 2.5 gigawatts of clean energy capacity. Projects will come online between 2026 and 2028.

Meta joins other tech giants seeking reliable clean energy sources. The social media company needs vast amounts of electricity for its data centers and AI operations.

NextEra recently partnered with Google to restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa. The nuclear plant had been shut down five years ago. The revival shows renewed interest in nuclear power as data center demand explodes.

Raised Earnings Forecast

The utility raised its 2025 adjusted earnings forecast to $3.62-$3.70 per share. The previous range was $3.45-$3.70 per share. NextEra also boosted its 2026 outlook to $3.92-$4.02 per share from $3.63-$4.00 per share.

The improved forecasts reflect growing power demand from AI adoption. Cloud companies and utilities are racing to secure land and grid connections. They need new generation capacity to support massive data center loads.

NextEra reached a separate agreement with WPPI Energy. The deal continues supplying 168 megawatts from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Two Rivers. That arrangement extends into the 2050s.

The company operates Florida Power & Light and NextEra Energy Resources. It’s one of the largest utility companies in the United States. NextEra specializes in renewable energy and clean power generation.

The Google Cloud partnership includes two recent power purchase agreements adding 600 megawatts to Oklahoma’s grid. Those contracts support Google’s technology infrastructure in the state.

The post USD mixed ahead of key FOMC decision – Scotiabank appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. The US Dollar (USD) is narrowly mixed in quiet trade as investors await this week’s key event—Wednesday’s FOMC decision, Scotiabank’s Chief FX Strategists Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret report. Markets weigh Fed cuts against sticky inflation “Stocks are churning in tight ranges while global bonds are softer as investors consider fading rate cut prospects outside of the US. European bond yields are up 4-5bps following hawkish comments from the ECB Governor Schnabel with Friday’s jump in Canadian bond yields adding to that momentum.” “The Fed is widely expected to cut rates this week, however, and give markets a little more insight into how a deeply divided policy-making body expects the key rate changes to unfold in the year ahead via updated dots and economic forecasts. More rate cuts are expected in 2026 but markets are having to balance expectations between sticky US inflation and the expected dovish shift in the Fed leadership next year.” “”The USD retains a sluggish undertone, meanwhile, and may need to find some hawkish nuggets in the Fed’s communications this week to avoid slipping further in what remains a weak period of the year for the USD overall from a seasonal point of view. The DXY is consolidating on the charts, with a tight trading range (potential bear flag pattern) developing between 98.8 (bear trigger) and 99.2 (short-term resistance).” Source: https://www.fxstreet.com/news/usd-mixed-ahead-of-key-fomc-decision-scotiabank-202512081336
