While global stock markets hit record highs and digital trading apps promise instant wealth, the ground reality across rural India tells a completely different story. Investments are of various types, but people choose different types than the most famous asset classes. Khamgaon, which is a taluka of the Buldhana district, and people in that district choose silver and real estate rather than stocks. Stock markets are seen as gambling in local villages, especially in Maharashtra. Khamgaon is known as a silver hub for traders and businesses.

Nowadays, the stock market gives higher returns and looks more lucrative than other asset classes, and many people buy stocks from tips, but the ground reality is different in local villages. People who live in Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi like fast and easy-to-access assets, but people who live in tier-3 cities like gold and silver.

Why Local Village People Choose Real Estate and Silver Investments Than Stocks?

Instant Liquidity: Converting Silver to Cash Within the Village Ecosystem

Converting silver into cash is easy compared to real estate and other non-tangible assets. Older people who don’t know how to buy silver online buy and hold physical silver in their houses. If any uncertain conditions occur, they don’t sell silver directly to banks and others; they mortgage it to their peer groups and get instant cash from them. When crops are cultivated, they pay the EMI and buy it back from them.

We went to Khamgaon and asked many people from Sarafa Bazaar Main Road, “Why do you like silver so much?” and they replied that it gives them a hedge against inflation and they don’t need to sell it. Someone said his grandmother bought a 30-tola silver patla at ₹18k and now it is valued at ₹90k—giving 4.5x returns on silver. We know stocks give higher returns than other assets, but they feel safe and tangible; that’s why old people choose silver.

Many local silver companies provide live silver rates in Khamgaon, but still, people are less aware of that and they choose physical silver over online options. Sharecirculate and Shri Vishwakarma Silver House, these two famous companies, provide a live ticker silver rate in Buldhana district to make people aware of investing online, but currently, less people show interest.

The Tangible Asset Gives the Owner Feeling to the Buyers

Stocks look like the fastest buying option but are risky also; if a business stops delivering good results, then the stock suddenly falls, and the risk of company closure is also present. Normal people don’t want to carry that risk in their investments. They want to watch their assets growing in front of them and want social proof in the village—showing their neighbors that they bought new silver ornaments like a Ganpati murti or silver rings.

In local villages, people talk when someone buys a new car or any type of asset, and that tangible feeling gives them a sense of satisfaction and achievement. When they buy any plot near government colleges or any open spaces, they can show it to their relatives. They can touch that land. But when buying stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs, they don’t touch that digital asset; they only watch it and feel they have less control over non-tangible assets.

High Utility and Cultural Authority

Cultural authority is high in local cities because people only buy new things when they have cash flow. That cash flow is only generated when they cultivate their crops and sell them in the bazaar. Then at Diwali, they buy new clothes for their sisters and for their family.

Cultural occasions directly influence the buying and selling of investors and people. People in the Buldhana district or nearby Vidarbha region depend heavily on wheat and oranges, so they generally buy assets in the month of April or September—mostly silver, due to Khamgaon having the tag of the silver city of Maharashtra. While Konkan people have a monthly cash flow due to high tourism spots, Buldhana and Nagpur have fewer public tourist spots compared to Western Maharashtra, so they invest more in real estate.

In a wedding, they need to give gold and silver rings to the groom and bride for their Sakarpuda ceremony. Many people, when they buy a new house, do a Bhandara, and in that Bhandara, they donate silver rings.

Generational Trust: Why Real Estate and Silver are Passed Down While Stocks are Often Feared

Real estate is passed down from one generation to another in India. Many sons live with their parents so they can inherit property from them after death or after retirement. I saw many people in Buldhana and Jalna who don’t do any job; they just have their grandparents’ land, and they protect it and get crops from that farm.

Some sell their land for business purposes, but they hold more weightage toward real estate. If any children are born, then people in India buy new gold and silver earrings for them. When they have a child’s Namkaran process, their relatives bring them new silver and gold rings.

When the child starts earning, the parents pass their assets to their son. In India, many parents give their daughter some part of their land if they don’t have a son. While stocks also have a nominee feature, many people don’t know about it in Khamgaon. They fear stocks when they listen to any news from their relatives that someone lost money in the stock market. Old people in villages told me that in 2025, their brother’s son lost ₹22 lakhs in the stock market, and due to this negative sentiment, many people stay away from the stock market.

Conclusion: Bridging the Financial Divide

The preference for real estate and silver over stocks in rural India is not a matter of financial illiteracy. It is a highly rational choice based on risk mitigation, immediate community utility, and deep cultural integration.

Until digital financial instruments can match the absolute tangibility, social prestige, and localized liquidity of a bar of silver or a plot of land, the ticker screens of major stock exchanges will remain a world away from the beating heart of rural India.

UK crypto holders brace for FCA’s expanded regulatory reach

The post UK crypto holders brace for FCA’s expanded regulatory reach appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. British crypto holders may soon face a very different landscape as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) moves to expand its regulatory reach in the industry. A new consultation paper outlines how the watchdog intends to apply its rulebook to crypto firms, shaping everything from asset safeguarding to trading platform operation. According to the financial regulator, these proposals would translate into clearer protections for retail investors and stricter oversight of crypto firms. UK FCA plans Until now, UK crypto users mostly encountered the FCA through rules on promotions and anti-money laundering checks. The consultation paper goes much further. It proposes direct oversight of stablecoin issuers, custodians, and crypto-asset trading platforms (CATPs). For investors, that means the wallets, exchanges, and coins they rely on could soon be subject to the same governance and resilience standards as traditional financial institutions. The regulator has also clarified that firms need official authorization before serving customers. This condition should, in theory, reduce the risk of sudden platform failures or unclear accountability. David Geale, the FCA’s executive director of payments and digital finance, said the proposals are designed to strike a balance between innovation and protection. He explained: “We want to develop a sustainable and competitive crypto sector – balancing innovation, market integrity and trust.” Geale noted that while the rules will not eliminate investment risks, they will create consistent standards, helping consumers understand what to expect from registered firms. Why does this matter for crypto holders? The UK regulatory framework shift would provide safer custody of assets, better disclosure of risks, and clearer recourse if something goes wrong. However, the regulator was also frank in its submission, arguing that no rulebook can eliminate the volatility or inherent risks of holding digital assets. Instead, the focus is on ensuring that when consumers choose to invest, they do…
