Spiro unveils Khaligraph Jones as brand ambassador to drive EV adoption in Kenya

Spiro Kenya has named award-winning rapper and entrepreneur Khaligraph Jones as its brand ambassador, the company announced in Nairobi today, a move aimed at accelerating awareness and adoption of electric motorcycles across Kenya.

The partnership makes Khaligraph Jones the face of Spiro’s push to connect with riders, young Kenyans, and communities across the country, with a focus on promoting the environmental and economic benefits of electric motorcycles and battery-swapping technology.

As brand ambassador, he will support community engagement initiatives and public awareness campaigns on behalf of the company.

“I’m excited to join the Spiro family and be part of a movement that is changing how people move every day. I look forward to working together to inspire more Kenyans to embrace the future of mobility,” Khaligraph Jones said at the unveiling.

Raymond Robert Kitunga, Deputy Country Head of Spiro Kenya, said the partnership was designed to inspire a new generation of Kenyans to choose cleaner and smarter transport. “Through this partnership, we aim to inspire a new generation to embrace cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable transportation solutions,” he said.

Why Spiro is betting big on Kenya

The announcement is not just a celebrity partnership; it is a signal of how seriously Spiro is investing in Kenya as a priority market. The company, which describes itself as Africa’s leading electric mobility company, has been on an aggressive funding run this year.

Just two weeks ago, Technext reported that Spiro closed a $55 million investment from Chinese growth-stage fund NewTrails Capital, bringing its total funding raised in 2026 alone to $270 million across three rounds. The first was a $50 million round led by Afreximbank; the second was a $215 million equity round closed three weeks before the NewTrails injection.

Across all rounds, Spiro’s total funding has now surpassed $600 million.

That capital is being deployed across Africa’s two-wheeler market, where millions of riders depend on petrol motorcycles, known as boda bodas in Kenya, as their primary income source.

Spiro’s battery-swapping model means riders do not need to buy or charge a battery themselves; they swap a depleted battery for a fully charged one at a station, the way you would swap an empty gas canister for a full one. The model reduces upfront costs, removes range anxiety, and keeps riders earning rather than waiting.

Khaligraph Jones, whose real name is Brian Robert Obuya, is one of Kenya’s best-known cultural figures, with a following that spans young urban Kenyans and the boda boda rider community that Spiro most needs to reach. The choice of ambassador is deliberate: motorcycle riders in Kenya are a close-knit, word-of-mouth community, and credibility within that community matters more than any billboard campaign.
