SHEIN is selling 279,992,500 shares, about 6.6% of the company, at HK$47.60 to HK$49.50, for gross proceeds of up to HK$13.86 billion, or close to $1.8 billion if the over allotment option is exercised in full. The company plans to spend roughly 40% of the proceeds on technology, 40% on brand building and global expansion, and the rest on general corporate purposes. The number that matters is not what SHEIN raises but what it is worth, and the trajectory is brutal. Private investors valued the company at $98.2 billion in 2022, marked it down to $64 billion in 2023 and again in April 2024, and this month's bankers pitched a $30 billion to $40 billion range. The final offer values SHEIN at $25.8 billion to $26.8 billion, about 70% below the peak. For a company that generated $41.8 billion of revenue and $2.1 billion of net income in 2025, that is a multiple that reflects deep skepticism about where growth goes next.
The skepticism is earned. Revenue growth decelerated from 20.7% in 2024 to 8% in 2025 and to just 1.1% in the first quarter of 2026. That quarter also brought a $99 million net loss, reversing a $395 million profit a year earlier, after the United States eliminated the de minimis duty exemption on small packages from China, the loophole that underpinned SHEIN's ultra cheap direct shipping model. US revenue, roughly a third of the total, fell 14.3%. Add tariffs, an FTC investigation, persistent scrutiny of its supply chain and cotton sourcing, and analysts arguing that the hot money in Hong Kong has rotated decisively into AI and chip listings, and the picture of a company that missed its window comes into focus. The one tailwind is competitive: rival Temu's retreat from the US fast fashion market has helped SHEIN's profitability recover from the worst of the shock.
