Pakistan's Crypto Regulator Seeks to Differentiate Speculative Tokens from Asset-Backed Digital Assets
According to Odaily, Bilal bin Saqib, Chairman of Pakistan's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), has called on Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi to distinguish speculative cryptocurrencies from asset-backed digital tokens. Regulators believe blockchain-recorded Islamic bonds can represent ownership of real income-generating assets, while gold-backed tokens and fully reserved stablecoins possess redeemable intrinsic value and should not be treated the same as speculative tokens lacking underlying assets. PVARA will continue working with Islamic scholars while developing licensing frameworks for stablecoins and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.

The proposal aims to address issues exposed by the FTX collapse, including unclear asset custody arrangements, commingling of customer and corporate funds, and uncertainty surrounding customer asset ownership during insolvency proceedings.

5. Security Alert
According to the Singapore Police Force, crypto users should remain vigilant against a new scam combining fake video meeting invitations, fraudulent software updates, and malicious Permit signatures. Attackers impersonate clients or business partners through Telegram and other messaging platforms, sending meeting links that prompt victims to download files or execute unknown commands, installing malware on their devices. Victims are then tricked into approving off-chain Permit signatures. Because these signatures do not immediately transfer funds, attackers may later move tokens without requiring further wallet confirmation—even if a hardware wallet is used. Users should never execute unknown commands or install unofficial software, always verify domains through official sources, carefully review the recipient, spending limit, and expiration of every signature, regularly revoke unused token approvals, never enter recovery phrases on any website, and enable authenticator-based two-factor authentication. If suspicious approvals are detected, revoke permissions immediately, transfer remaining assets to a secure wallet, and contact the relevant platform to report and freeze any suspicious transactions.
