MEXC is our pick for XRP traders here: on 4 September 2026, XRP/USDT spot and XRPUSDT perpetuals both carried MEXC's 0 Fees tag at 0.0000% on both sides.
Bitrue charges a published rate on the same asset, applied identically to limit and market orders, so the comparison is a fee against zero rather than one fee against another.

Key Takeaways
  • On 4 September 2026, XRP/USDT spot and XRPUSDT perpetuals both carried MEXC's 0 Fees tag at 0.0000% maker and 0.0000% taker.
  • Bitrue's published schedule charges 0.098% on BTC, ETH and USDT pairs but 0.196% to 0.280% on XRP pairs, with one rate covering both sides.
  • At 10,000 USD of monthly XRP/USDT volume that is roughly 235 USD a year on Bitrue against nothing on MEXC.
  • Bitrue committed publicly in November 2022 to annual third-party audited proof of reserves, and we located no published report as of 4 September 2026.
  • Bitrue's terms exclude the US, Canada, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China and the EEA, and MEXC is prohibited in most of those markets too.

You opened the account for XRP, and XRP is the expensive part

Most people who sign up for Bitrue do it for one reason.
The platform built its identity around XRP and the XRP Ledger, and for several years that was a genuine reason to be there rather than somewhere larger.
The awkward part shows up at checkout.
Bitrue markets a clean flat spot fee, and on Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT pairs the published rate is 0.098%.
Trade the asset the platform is known for and the rate changes.
According to Bitrue's official fee schedule, XRP pairs outside the three main ones are charged at 0.280%, which is roughly 2.86 times the headline rate.
There is a second detail that costs patient traders real money and almost never appears in reviews.
Bitrue's spot schedule publishes one rate per pair group rather than separate maker and taker rates.
An XRP limit order sitting in the book and an XRP market order crossing the spread are billed identically.

The MEXC View

This article is published by MEXC, MEXC competes with Bitrue, and MEXC benefits if you open an account with us.
That is a reason to check our numbers rather than a reason to discount them, which is why every figure here carries a source and a retrieval date.
Our method is set out in full in our review methodology.
One number in this comparison is disputed between Bitrue's own sources, and we are not going to quietly pick the version that suits us.
Bitrue's current fee schedule gives 0.196% for the XRP/USDT pair group, while an older Bitrue fee page still shows 0.2%, and we use the lower figure throughout this article.
Against a rate of 0.0000% the difference between those two figures changes nothing, which is the cleanest way to handle a source conflict we cannot resolve.

Where MEXC wins

XRP/USDT is on the 0 Fees list, on both sides

The official MEXC fee page carries a 0 Fees filter on both its spot and futures tabs, and it is a published category rather than a marketing line.
XRP/USDT appears under that tag on the spot tab at 0.0000% maker and 0.0000% taker.
XRPUSDT perpetual appears under the same tag on the USDT-M futures tab, also at 0.000% on both sides.
So for the two markets an XRP trader actually uses, there is no fee to compare.
MEXC's standard spot schedule, which applies to pairs outside that list, is 0.0000% maker and 0.0500% taker, falling to 0.0400% when the MX deduction is switched on.

What that removes from your bill over a year

Take a trader who moves 10,000 USD of XRP/USDT volume a month, which is ordinary for someone trading a position a few times a month rather than daily.
At Bitrue's published 0.196% that costs 19.60 USD a month, or 235.20 USD a year, and the figure is the same whether the orders are limit or market.
On MEXC that trader pays nothing, because the pair is on the 0 Fees list.
Scale to 50,000 USD a month and Bitrue's cost reaches 1,176.00 USD a year against nothing.
Perpetuals tell the same story with different numbers.
Bitrue's futures schedule is 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker, so 50,000 USD of monthly taker volume costs 30.00 USD a month, or 360.00 USD a year.
XRPUSDT perpetuals on MEXC cost nothing on either side.
Token discounts do not change the shape of this.
Bitrue's BTR discount reduces its rate; a percentage discount on a rate of zero is still zero.

There is no asset-specific surcharge anywhere in the schedule

The deeper difference is structural rather than promotional.
MEXC's published spot schedule does not change based on which asset you are trading, so XRP is billed the same way as BTC, which is billed the same way as any other listed pair.
Where a pair carries the 0 Fees tag it costs nothing, and where it does not it runs at the standard 0.0000% and 0.0500%.
Bitrue prices XRP as its own category, above its own headline rate, which is the single fact this comparison turns on.

The products around the order book

CoinGecko tracked 1,627 coins and 2,019 pairs on MEXC on 4 September 2026, alongside 1,214 perpetual contracts.
Around those markets sit Earn products, copy trading, Launchpad and Launchpool, and RealStocks tokenised equity exposure.
A departing Bitrue user looking for a replacement for Power Piggy will find flexible and fixed-term Earn products, though the rates and terms are not the same product and should be read rather than assumed.

Why four sources give four answers on Bitrue's coin count

This section exists because we could not honestly write a single number.
Bitrue's own marketing copy says more than 700 assets.
CoinGecko's exchange page tracked 566 coins and 817 pairs.
Two widely read review sites report around 60 and 543 respectively, neither stating a counting method.
None of that means Bitrue is hiding anything.
Self-reported catalogue figures usually count every listed market, third-party trackers usually count only markets they can price and verify, and the two methods diverge for every exchange rather than this one.
The rule we apply, and would suggest to any reader, is to treat a figure that no third party can check as a claim rather than a measurement, and to name the source and the date whenever the two disagree.
Applied to ourselves, that means our own 1,627 figure is CoinGecko's count on 4 September 2026 and not a number we generated.

Is Bitrue Safe? Two Hacks and a Missing Report

Bitrue has two publicly reported security incidents, and both were resolved in users' favour.
On 27 June 2019 an attacker accessed a hot wallet and moved 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA belonging to about 90 users, and Bitrue said all lost funds would be returned.
On 14 April 2023 a hot wallet holding under 5% of platform funds was exploited for approximately 23 million USD, withdrawals were suspended until 18 April, and Bitrue committed to full reimbursement.
We found no public reporting that either commitment was broken.
The transparency question is separate, and it is the one we would want answered before holding a large balance anywhere.
In a public statement dated 12 November 2022 Bitrue committed to providing third-party audited proof of reserves, annually.
As of 4 September 2026 we could not locate a published proof-of-reserves report or verification page.
A missing report is not evidence of a shortfall.
It is the absence of the specific evidence that would let you rule one out, nearly four years after the platform said it would provide that evidence every year.

The same question, asked about us

Naming a competitor's exposure without naming our own would make this section advertising.
We found no publicly reported exchange breach at MEXC, and that is a real difference, but it is not the whole picture.
MEXC operates under an offshore corporate structure with no prudential regulator supervising its reserves, and our monthly proof of reserves is a self-commissioned attestation audited by Hacken rather than a regulator-supervised audit.
The Guardian Fund is a corporate commitment sized at 100 million USD, not a statutory investor compensation scheme, and neither platform in this comparison sits inside one.
We wrote a whole article on why that distinction matters more than most people assume, covering what an exchange protection fund does and does not cover.
MEXC also runs a fast listing pipeline, which is the reason our catalogue is large and also a source of risk that Bitrue's slower pipeline carries less of.
Newly listed small-capitalisation tokens have thinner books, wider spreads and higher project failure rates, and a zero fee does nothing about any of that.

The XRP Ledger ecosystem argument is closer to a draw than we expected

We went looking for evidence that Bitrue's XRP Ledger coverage was thinner than its reputation suggests.
It is not.
The clearest recent test was the Coreum and Sologenic merger.
Two of the ecosystem's better-known projects were retired and converted into a single token, TX, at a token generation event on 6 March 2026, at ratios of one COREUM to one TX and one SOLO to 2.345422 TX.
Handling that required an exchange to credit converted balances, reopen trading on a new ticker and restore deposits and withdrawals.
Bitrue handled it, and so did MEXC, Gate, Bitget and Uphold.
Bitrue is a competent XRP Ledger venue, and a comparison claiming otherwise is not describing the platform we looked at.
That finding is what makes the fee gap decisive rather than incidental.
When Bitrue was one of very few venues listing XRP Ledger assets, a premium on those assets had a rationale, because you were paying for access you could not get elsewhere.
In 2026 that access is broadly available and the premium is still there.

Where Bitrue still wins

Three things about Bitrue hold up well, and a comparison that pretends otherwise is not worth reading.
The flat structure is genuinely clean outside XRP.
A 0.098% rate on BTC, ETH and USDT pairs with no tier ladder beats most large venues on price for a low-volume trader who never touches XRP.
The XRP Ledger community knowledge is real.
Bitrue spent years listing ecosystem assets that larger venues ignored, and it executed both 2026 migrations competently.
It moved early into tokenised real-world assets.
On 2 April 2026 Bitrue launched 40 tokenised instruments on its futures platform, including equity and index products alongside tokenised gold and silver, with leverage between 50x and 100x.
These are perpetual contracts on tokenised underlying assets rather than spot ownership, which is a different product from real equities and carries leverage risk that share ownership does not.
Power Piggy also remains a popular flexible-yield product, and nothing on MEXC replicates it exactly.

Bitrue Restricted Countries vs MEXC

For a large share of readers this question settles the comparison before any fee does.
Section 6 of Bitrue's terms states that it does not accept registrations from, or provide services to, persons located in the European Economic Area, citing MiCA directly.
The same section names the United States, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, India and Singapore as markets where Bitrue does not provide services.
The document names a Costa Rican operating entity, with Costa Rican law governing, which several third-party reviews still get wrong by describing Bitrue as Singapore-based.
India is the one large market in this table where the two platforms genuinely diverge.
Bitrue's terms exclude Indian residents outright, while India does not appear in the Prohibited Jurisdictions clause of the MEXC User Agreement, though MEXC app downloads are unavailable in Indian app stores.
Readers should check the MEXC restricted regions summary and the User Agreement itself before opening an account rather than relying on any comparison article.

Who should pick what

If you are
Pick
Because
An XRP trader in a market both platforms serve
MEXC
XRP/USDT spot and XRPUSDT perpetuals cost nothing on either side
Trading XRP Ledger assets in smaller pairs
MEXC
0.0500% taker at worst, against 0.280% applied to both sides
A low-volume trader who only touches BTC, ETH and USDT pairs
Either, and the case for moving is weak
0.098% against 0.0500% is a few dollars a year at small size
A trader who came to Bitrue for Power Piggy
Compare carefully
MEXC offers flexible and fixed Earn products, but the terms and rates are not the same product
A reader in the US, Canada, the UK or the EEA
Neither platform here
Both exclude most of those markets, so use a venue licensed where you live
Someone who wants a supervised custodian
Neither platform here
Neither sits inside a statutory investor compensation scheme

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MEXC or Bitrue cheaper for XRP?
MEXC, because XRP/USDT spot and XRPUSDT perpetuals carry its 0 Fees tag at 0.0000% on both sides.
Open an account and check the fee page filter before you move anything.

Does MEXC really charge nothing to trade XRP?
On XRP/USDT spot and XRPUSDT perpetuals, yes, both listed under the 0 Fees filter on the official fee page.
Other MEXC pairs run at the standard 0.0000% maker and 0.0500% taker.

Why do XRP pairs cost more on Bitrue?
Bitrue's published fee schedule prices XRP pairs separately from its 0.098% headline rate.
Bitrue has not published a rationale for the difference.

Does Bitrue charge different maker and taker fees?
No, its spot schedule publishes one rate per pair group covering both sides.
MEXC charges 0.0000% maker across its spot schedule, so limit orders cost nothing anywhere.

Does Bitrue publish proof of reserves?
We located no published proof-of-reserves report from Bitrue as of 4 September 2026.
It committed to annual third-party audited proof of reserves in a public statement dated 12 November 2022.

Is Bitrue safe?
Bitrue has two publicly reported incidents, in June 2019 and April 2023, and publicly committed to full reimbursement in both cases.
Neither platform in this comparison sits inside a statutory compensation scheme.

How many coins does Bitrue list?
Sources disagree: Bitrue reports more than 700, while CoinGecko tracked 566 coins and 817 pairs.
Self-reported and third-party counts use different methods, so compare like with like.

Can I use Bitrue in the US or Europe?
No, its terms exclude the United States, Canada, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China and the EEA.
MEXC is prohibited in most of those markets too.

How do I move my crypto off Bitrue?
Close futures positions and unlock any Power Piggy or staking balance first, then match the network on both sides.
XRP withdrawals need a destination tag, so send a test amount first and see our withdrawal walkthrough.

Risk and compliance notice

Cryptocurrency trading carries substantial risk and you can lose the entire value of your position.
Perpetual futures with high leverage can liquidate a position on a small adverse move, and our futures risk guide explains how quickly that happens at each tier.
Newly listed and small-capitalisation tokens carry additional liquidity and volatility risk, and yield products carry principal risk regardless of the advertised rate.
Zero-fee pair coverage is set by MEXC and shown on the official fee page, and pairs can move on or off that list without notice.
MEXC is not a licensed or regulated platform in the European Economic Area, does not serve EEA residents following the MiCA transition deadline of 1 July 2026, and appears on ESMA's register of non-compliant entities.
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China, Malaysia or Kazakhstan, and the User Agreement is the authoritative list.
Fee schedules, asset lists and jurisdictional availability change without notice, and every figure here carries a retrieval date of 4 September 2026 for that reason.
This article is for information only and is not financial, legal or tax advice.

Where to go from here

If you trade XRP with any regularity in a market both platforms serve, the comparison reduces to one line: a published rate applied to both sides, against zero.
If you only trade majors a few times a year, Bitrue's flat structure is fine and nothing here should talk you out of it.
The same six-dimension test is applied to larger venues in our MEXC versus Binance comparison and our MEXC versus Bybit comparison, and across the market in our ranking of the ten leading exchanges of 2026.
